The RSPB

The Royal Society for the Protection of Birds (RSPB) is a registered charity. It speaks out for birds and wildlife, tackling problems that threaten the environment, across the UK. Its work is focussed on species and habitats which are in the greatest danger. It manages over 200 nature reserves covering over 130,000 ha, and is a very active and influential environmental lobbying organisation in the UK.

Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts

The Royal Society of Wildlife Trusts comprises 47 individual Wildlife Trusts, supported by >800,000 members, owning 2000 nature reserves and working with partners to conserve and raise the profile of wildlife across the UK. The Wildlife Trust for Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire and Northamptonshire which hosted one of our visits manages 128 nature reserves and aims to make them bigger, better and more joined up. The Great Fen Project is one of their 4 priority Living Landscape schemes.

Natural England

Natural England is the government’s statutory nature conservation agency for England.

Environment Agency

The Environment Agency is the government agency concerned with water quality, pollution, waste, flooding and implementing the Water Framework Directive in England and Wales.

Internal Drainage Boards

The Internal Drainage Boards are responsible for drainage maintenance in low-lying areas, particularly on behalf of farmers. There are dozens of different IDBs in the areas we will be visiting.

The project was funded from a Leonardo da Vinci grant.
The project started in 2010 and was finished in 2012.
