Who we are ...

The Conservatoire du Littoral is a national public administrative body created by the law of July 10th, 1975. It has for mission to protect, by a land acquisition strategy, the natural, coastal or lakeside areas, with biological and landscaped interest. Its objective is to guarantee, on the horizon 2050, the transmission in the future generations of a ground and maritime heritage, representing the "third wild" of the French metropolitan and overseas seashore.

With more than thirty years of experience, the Conservatoire is one of the most important land protection organisations in the world. It insists on sharing its experience and in developing specialist missions in France and abroad with all the actors of coastal conservation. The Europe and International Delegation works since more than 15 years in international cooperation projects through:

The Conservatoire is also the creator and the coordinator of the PIM initiative. The aim of the Mediterranean Small Islands Initiave is to set-up an effective and practical management structure in small islands, achieved through scientific and technical missions in the field, with the ultimate objective of developing resource protection/conservation projects. The initiative wants to facilitate interactions among managers, scientists, and experts in natural resources and biodiversity conservation.
